About this space

CY Venue is a versatile and adaptable event and performance venue, which can be activated at full capacity or divided into smaller spaces for your business and creative needs.

Housed within the Johnston Street building of the Collingwood Yards precinct, this fully refurbished space is equipped with the latest technology and infrastructure to support Victorias creative industry.

Our north-facing venue is bathed in natural light with blackout blinds throughout. CY Venue features climate control in every space, adjustable stage and venue lighting and a variety of furniture options for different event and booking needs.

Our venue is located on the Upper Ground level of Johnston Street and is accessible by ramp from the Collingwood Yards main entrance or by lift from the art deco entrance next to PBS. The stage and green room are accessible via a ramp.

There are also accessible and ambulant all gender bathrooms on this level in the public corridor.

In addition to the main event space/s, CY Venue features a foyer and green room, both of which can be used as break out spaces. Our Foyer includes a kitchenette and service area equipped with dishwasher, bar fridges, microwaves and space for ticketing and attendee registration.

Please note when hiring only one part of the space that your hire may include sharing the foyer, kitchenette and access points with other bookings. Every action to minimise intrusions or disruptions to your booking will be taken.

Collingwood Yards is managed by not-for-profit organisation, Contemporary Arts Precincts Ltd. Our office is located on Level 1 in the Johnston Street Building. Please make sure you’ve contacted us to arrange an appointment before dropping by.

Over the last five years our organisation has taken ownership of the former Collingwood TAFE site and invested more than $15m from philanthropy, government and commercial partners into its redevelopment. There is a crisis of affordable arts space in Australia and in Melbourne in particular. Most, if not all, of the not-for-profit tenants supported at Collingwood Yards have come under threat of having to relocate, to pay unaffordable rent or close if they are unable to secure an affordable base for their operations.

We believe that the importance of keeping a diverse range of artists and creative communities active in any city cannot be understated. The social benefits of arts participation are well documented and affordable space is a key part of supporting them. Collingwood Yards is both a transformational project for its neighbourhood and a proof of concept for our broader goal: to develop a new model of providing affordable and sustainable arts space in Australia.
