About Tanilba House
Historic Tanilba House (1831) is a beautiful convict built and colonial stone homestead set on 3 acres of stunning gardens overlooking incredible Port Stephens. Tanilba is 2 hours drive North of Sydney.
The house itself has grand proportions and high ceilings with many original elements including various Victorian flourishes. It has 6 bedrooms and 3 reception rooms including a large ball room sized room.
It is furnished with antiques and has 3 original fireplaces and a late 1800's cooker. There is large all weather conservatory and broad colonial verandahs.
The grounds are beautifully kept and feature various historic elements including the oldest olive tree in Australia. There are two grand 160 year old fig trees forming a cathedral sized area, a 30 meter long arbour covered in vines and flowers, an ancient Bunya Pine and many different whimsical garden areas with statues, garden seating and other garden features.
There are substantial stone features across the garden including stone benches, a huge stone circular driveway, the large enclosed conservatory, stone pillars in the arbour etc.
The large field and house has water views from 2 sides. There are large metal gates and there is always something in the garden flowering with key features huge frangipani and jacaranda trees and an extensive heritage listed wisteria vine.
Port Stephens is literally across the road and the front verandah has extensive views of the bay.
