Your Guide to Hiring Away Day Venues in London

When it comes to successful events, good planning is essential. We’re here to help you, so we’ve listed some of the most important things about organising an away day. Here’s what you need to have in mind:

  • Think about the attendees first. What suits them best? In case your company consists mostly of young employees, then you should probably aim for something fun, quirky and dynamic. If the age range is much wider, a tasteful private dining party never fails to impress the guests. With our variety of away day venues in London, you’ll surely find something that’s ideal for your vision.

  • Set your objectives. Corporate away days are perfect for team building, but there’s way more to such events. Choose the away day venue according to what you want to achieve the most. We’ve listed plenty of team away day venues in London for different purposes. For example, unusual meeting rooms are great for brainstorming and enhancing creativity.

  • Don’t forget the aftermath. Ask the team for feedback after the away day takes place. Get to know their opinions about the agenda and, obviously, the away day venue!

Need more away day ideas? See a short list of our favourite away day trends in London:

  • Blank canvas spaces. It’s hard to think about venues that give you more creative freedom. Warehouses, lofts and other industrial venues – you name it. We’re here to help you find the perfect one.

  • Cookings masterclasses. Strengthen your team bounds while a professional chef teaches you how to cook something utterly delicious. During this kind of away day, you’ll learn skills that are useful outside your work environment, too.

  • Outside space. If you’re lucky to host your away day during the warmer months, make use of the weather. How about a rooftop bar? This choice is sure to leave your colleagues talking about that special away day for months.

Unique Away Day Experiences

Given the diversity and richness of London's venues, creating a one-of-a-kind amazing away day experience requires a good concept and an understanding of what makes each location special. For a truly impactful event, consider integrating these fascinating ideas into your away day planning:

  • Historical Exploration: Utilise London's rich history by choosing venues close to landmarks or historical sites. Why not combine your away day with a guided tour or a themed event that celebrates the area's heritage, providing a unique learning and team-building experience?
  • Cultural Immersion: Opt for venues near London's cultural hotspots, like the West End theatres, art galleries in South Kensington, or music venues in Shoreditch. Incorporate a cultural element into your away day, whether it's a private gallery viewing, a theatre workshop, or a musical performance.
  • Innovative Workshops: Beyond traditional team-building activities, consider workshops that focus on innovation and creativity. From coding boot camps in Tech City to design thinking sessions in a creative loft, these experiences can inspire your team and cultivate new skills.
  • Sustainable and Socially Responsible Themes: Choose venues that follow sustainability and social responsibility. You could engage your team in activities that contribute to the local community or the environment, such as a cleanup day along the Thames or a workshop with a social enterprise.
  • Wellness and Mindfulness Retreats: With the growing emphasis on mental health and wellbeing, consider venues that offer a tranquil escape from the city. Organise a day of mindfulness, yoga, and wellness workshops in a serene garden venue or a retreat space on the outskirts of London.

Tips for Planning an Unforgettable Away Day

  • Early Planning and Venue Booking: Start planning well in advance to secure your ideal venue, especially if you're targeting popular spots or planning an event during peak seasons.
  • Tailor Activities to Your Team: Customise the away day program to match your team's interests, demographics, and the company's culture. This personal touch ensures higher engagement and a more meaningful experience.
  • Incorporate Local Flavours: Embrace the local culture and cuisine of the area surrounding your chosen venue. A tasting session with a local brewer, a cooking class featuring British cuisine, or a street art tour can add an exciting local dimension to your event.
  • Use Technology for Engagement: Leverage apps and social media to enhance the away day experience. Create a hashtag for your event, use interactive apps for team-building activities, or organise a digital scavenger hunt that explores the venue and its surroundings!
  • Feedback and Follow-up: After the event, gather feedback from participants to gauge the success of the day and identify areas for improvement. Use these insights to make your next away day even more outstanding!

Selecting the perfect venue and crafting an engaging program for an away day in London guarantees that a simple corporate event turns into a memorable adventure. By focusing on special experiences, personal touches, and picking the best of London's event spaces, you can create an away day that not only strengthens team bonds but also enriches and inspires every attendee!

FAQs about Away Day Venues in London

How much does it cost to hire an away day venue in London?

Many different factors can affect the cost of hiring an away day venue in London, including location, capacity and the standard of the venue. The average price of an away day venue in London is approximately £250-£500 per session. However, if you expect large numbers of attendees (such as 100+), then hiring a spacious area will cost around £1000-£3000+ per session. (All data from Tagvenue.)

Which parts of London are the best for finding away day venues?

Away day venues in London are plentiful. From the city's famous landmarks to its hidden gems, there are many places to choose from when finding the perfect venue for your team's away day. Here are some of our top picks:

  • South Bank. The South Bank is one of London's most popular places, so it's no surprise that it also has some great venues for away days. In South Bank, you will find plenty of meeting rooms, and you can surely find the right one, whether you're looking for something modern or traditional. The South Bank is also home to some of London's best restaurants and bars, so your team will be spoilt for choice!
  • Shoreditch. This trendy part of London is perfect for those looking for something different. You can find plenty of quirky bars and great restaurants with a fantastic atmosphere. You can also book an away day package, which includes food and drink, or you can simply hire a meeting room. If you're looking for something a little different from the usual boardroom, Shoreditch is perfect!
  • West End. If you're looking for something a little more corporate, head to the West End. Plenty of great venues in this part of London have been specifically designed with away days in mind. The West End is one of the most expensive areas to rent a venue in, but you will definitely find a range of exciting options.

How can I save money on an away day venue in London?

Remember that if you are looking for something close to central London, prices may be higher than if you were to host your event in a suburb or outer borough where venues tend to be cheaper. The venue's capacity will also impact the cost of hiring an away day venue in London. If your group is small or medium-sized, renting a larger space may not be worth the price. You should also be aware of the pricing options that venues have. Many event spaces charge by the hour, session, or per person, while others also operate on minimum spend, meaning that you have to spend a minimum amount of money on food, drink, and other services. When comparing prices and budgeting your event, this is definitely something to keep in mind. You should also consider whether you want to use in-house catering, hire an external caterer or bring your own (if the venue's policy allows it). In-house catering is often more expensive, but it can also be more convenient if you don’t have any experience running events.

Why should I hire an away day venue in London?

Hiring an away day venue in London isn't only a change of scenery; it's about unlocking the full potential of your team! By stepping outside the office environment, you create a fresh space for creativity, collaboration, and team bonding. Away days offer a break from routine, fostering innovation and problem-solving in a relaxed setting. Plus, with London's huge range of fantastic venues, from tranquil outdoor spaces to versatile event halls, you can customise your gathering to perfectly suit your team's needs! So, why not inject some excitement into your next team-building day and see the positive impact it can have on morale and productivity?

The view of the Thames river looking north towards London is fantastic! We had an all-day 23 people team off-site and the room was perfect for this - lots of light and it felt open and fresh. The food was great too. Comments from the team have all been very positive. The staff, especially Justyna and Andrew, were super helpful and very professional. We would definitely use the venue again! Thank you Doggett's Coat and Badge!

It’s a lovely place. Such an ‘unexpected’ pleasure in the city. It’s relaxed, welcoming, unfussy, has everything you need and is a wonderful place to collect together and think away from the office. Nobody bothers you, but they are so helpful if you need them. I would recommend the venue without hesitation if you want a peaceful place full of character. We had a great day. Thank you so much.

Excellent service and price considering we booked this only a few days before we needed it. A quirky little venue that was something different for our team meeting. Staff were very friendly and a good selection of teas and coffee was provided. Heating in the tent was very good considering it was cold day outside. We were also pleasantly surprised by how reasonable the price was.
