Your Guide to Hiring Photo Shoot Locations in London

Are you in London and thinking about a great place to snap some superb pictures? You couldn’t have been in a better place! London is dotted all over with both indoor and outdoor photo shoot places at every price range.

From eclectic Soho, Covent Garden and Westminster right in the heart of Central London, where inspiring people gather together to get those creative ideas flowing, to more peaceful and quiet neighbourhoods of Dalston and Hackney - they all offer a range of options to choose from! So grab your camera and hop on our curated list to discover a perfect photo shoot location in no time!

But before you can busy clicking, take a look at our list of key points to keep in mind while searching for a location.

Things to Keep in Mind When Hiring Photo Shoot Locations in London:

The facilities you might require - Longer photoshoots require breaks, so it would be great for models and other staff to have a space to relax and eat snacks. Check out locations that offer a kitchen or a dedicated area for breaks. A perfect location should also have a changing room, as well as makeup stations to get the models ready.

  • Equipment - Some locations provide some basic photography equipment in the hire fee, such as backdrops, lighting (strobes, speedlights, or a Three Point Lighting configuration) and some props. For a fashion photo shoot, clothes racks and a makeup table may also come in handy. Some photo shoot venues may also provide retouching and photography assistants. Don’t hesitate to ask venue managers for a more detailed list of the equipment they provide, as well as any additional fees or services.
  • Match a photo shoot location to the concept - The location should align with your photo shoot’s theme and mood. A vintage-inspired shoot calls for a historic venue or rustic setting, while a sleek, modern concept works best in a minimalist studio or industrial loft. Consider how the venue’s textures, colors, and overall vibe enhance your vision without requiring excessive props or editing.
  • Budget and Additional Costs – Before finalising a location, confirm the total hire fee and any additional costs. Some venues charge extra for overtime, weekend bookings, or special equipment. If you’re working with a tight budget, look for locations that offer package deals or discounts for longer sessions. Also, check whether there are any hidden fees, such as cleaning charges or security deposits.
  • Permissions and Restrictions – Some venues have specific rules regarding the type of shoots allowed, noise levels, or the number of people on set. If you're planning to use smoke machines, loud music, or even pets, make sure to discuss this in advance. Additionally, check if permits are required, especially for outdoor or historical locations. The last thing you want is to deal with unexpected restrictions on the day of your shoot!

Overall, taking photographs in indoor photoshoot locations gives you better control over essential elements and ensures that your creativity can have free rein. So whether you’re a professional photographer, keen amateur or commissioning a photographic shoot, remember that your photoshoot location is a key element in taking a great photograph.

Maximising Small Spaces for Dynamic Photo Shoots

Small spaces don't have to limit your creativity. With a few innovative strategies, these compact settings can transform into dynamic photography studios that exceed your expectations. Here's how to maximise smaller spaces for creative photo shoots.

  • Creative Use of Mirrors: Incorporating mirrors can dramatically expand the perceived space in your photos, adding depth and intrigue. Position mirrors strategically to reflect natural light or create compelling compositions through duplicated imagery.
  • Colour and Texture: Bright, light colours can make spaces appear large, while textures can add depth and dimension to your photos without needing more physical space.
  • Lighting Techniques: Mastering lighting is crucial in small spaces and indoor photo shoot locations. Use soft, diffused light to minimise harsh shadows and make the area feel large. Consider using LED panels or ring lights, which offer substantial illumination without occupying too much space.
  • Multifunctional Props: Choose props that can serve multiple purposes or be easily modified for different looks. Think of collapsible backdrops, reversible fabrics, or furniture pieces that can be styled in various ways.
  • Vertical Space Utilisation: Don't just think horizontally; vertical spaces offer untapped potential for creative photo shoots. Use wall-mounted shelves or hanging elements to draw the eye upwards, making the space feel taller and more open.
  • The Power of Post-Production: Sometimes, the magic happens in post-production. Use editing software to adjust the composition, remove distracting elements, or even digitally extend the space around your subject for a more dynamic result.
  • Schedule Daylight Shoots: If natural light is available, schedule your shoot when light is optimal. Natural light can save space (no need for bulky lighting equipment) and bring a soft, expansive feel to the photographs.

Tips to capture the best shots outdoors in London

Outdoor shoots allow for more creative freedom, such as using weather elements, movement, and expansive spaces to add depth and energy to photos. Planning a photo session outdoors in London can be challenging but with these tips at hand, you’re sure to get the best shots! Dive in.

  • Prepare for Weather: London’s unpredictable weather can change quickly. Protect your gear and use rain or mist creatively for unique shots, like reflections on wet streets around Leadenhall Market or St. Paul’s Cathedral.
  • Golden Hour: The warm, soft light before sunset or after sunrise is perfect for capturing your favourite landmarks like Big Ben or The Shard in flattering conditions.
  • Low Light Challenges: For night shoots, use a tripod to avoid shake, adjust your ISO, and experiment with long exposures to capture movement like the lights around Piccadilly Circus or Oxford Street.
  • Explore Hidden Spots: While Tower Bridge and the London Eye are famous and lovely, check out quieter areas like Southbank for artistic shots or Greenwich Park for stunning skyline views.
  • Adapt to the Environment: Be ready for wind or crowds. Use these elements to add life to your photos or wait for quieter moments in locations like Kensington Gardens for serene shots.
  • Scout Locations: Some places, like Covent Garden or Notting Hill, can get crowded. Check in advance for the best times to shoot and ensure you have any necessary permissions.
  • Stay Safe: Keep your gear secure and stay aware of your surroundings, especially in less crowded areas like Regent’s Canal or at night around London Bridge.

By embracing these tips, you’ll be well-equipped to explore and photograph amazing pictures outdoors.

I loved everything about this place, beautiful studio, we had studio number 2, a girl from reception was so helpful (pardon I didn’t note your name, but hope you liked the flowers 😍✨) once we arrived we were greeted and welcomed, we had a white backdrop set up for us on request, receptionist also helped us with lighting as outside weather was a little grim, and we couldn’t use natural light (too dark). Overall exceptional experience from start (booking experience) until finish, we were able to achieve everything we planned for our photoshoot and enjoyed every bit of it! Thank you so much 😊 will be tagging you in our photos in instagram

The space was big and quiet. I book it to shoot some sport related images, and the model could move enough to mimic the same exercises as if she were on court. The studio also has some chairs and a sofa, that we used for some of the shots. The place also had 2 flashes, which worked perfectly. I also brought my owns, but I didn't have to use them. The lady who at the reception was very kind, showed the studio, and explain everything. She even offered to help changing the backdrops, which we didn't required.

I swear it was the best experience ever. Quina was so nice and put us all of us at ease. She’s an amazing host and her studio is so perfect for small-medium shoots. The photographer was able to shoot 3 girls for a girl group project and we all left super happy and wanting to come back. The way Quina makes everything available for you is quite rare on this platform where everybody else tries to overcharge with add-ons. She offers a very fair price and does it with the biggest smile and positive energy. Will definitely use it again.

The space itself is really impressive, with stylish decor, lots of natural light and all the amenities we could possibly need. We will definitely book this space again.

Booked Lounge Space at The Att Pynta Lounge
4.5
Everything was as described in the advertising. I had been looking for a venue for a personal brand photo shoot, the style and ambience of the lounge was perfect. We were welcomed warmly by Kai and nothing was too much trouble, especially as we arrived late due to train delays. Everything about the experience and the space was relaxing and resonated with the concept we were looking for. Thank you Kai and Poppy for a great experience

Really enjoyed the space, we did a photo shoot and the options for backgrounds and a activities were numerous. The surrounding area was great for some outside photos as well for that East London vibe! Paul met us on the day and was really good at setting guidelines and managing expectations and giving ideas for for different rooms. Definitely slotted into memory for future.

Booked Events/Gallery/Pop Up London at Indra Studios

Indra Studios works really well for me. Very good equipment including several constant lights, multiple (powerful) external flashes easily compatible with any of my cameras, tripods, and a number of backdrops that can also be used as infinity-style flooring for a bit of an extra cost. The big plus, though, is really the people. Friendly, approachable, easy to contact, punctual, profession and easy-going. I never once felt stressed or rushed, or like I didn't have adequate tech support. Really great photos. Would definitely use again.
