The Old Palace is a stunning venue perfect for weddings, corporate events, and celebrations. The Banqueting Hall, with its high ceilings, original wood beams, and impressive artwork, can host up to 250 guests on long tables or 200 on round ones. The space is also available for dry hire, with kitchen access Sunday to Thursday, offering flexibility for your event needs.

Attached to the Banqueting Hall is a spacious bar for up to 100 guests, ideal for mingling or photo booths. Outside, the Knot Garden offers a tranquil setting with breathtaking views of Hatfield House, perfect for outdoor drink receptions and lawn games. Whether hosting a conference, birthday party, or awards ceremony, The Old Palace provides a memorable setting for any occasion.

Host rules

• The use of confetti, rice or petals of any type within the Old Palace, Riding School, Gardens or Hatfield Park is not permitted.
• The use of helium balloons within the Old Palace, Riding School and Hatfield House is not permitted.
• The use of fireworks and drones within Hatfield Park is not permitted.
• Open flames/candles are not permitted in the Old Palace, Riding School or in any rooms in Hatfield House (battery powered candles are permitted).
• No smoke or haze machines are permitted in the Old Palace, Riding School or in any rooms in Hatfield House.
• Children in the Knot Garden should be accompanied by an adult.
• No Smoking in the Knot Garden.
• No raised structure on the lawn.
• Acoustic music only in the Knot Garden during the drinks reception.
• Access to the Knot Garden until 8pm only.
• Sparklers only allowed at the front of the venue.
• Fireplace in the Old Palace is only for decoration purposes only.
• Access and drop off to the venue is on the day of the event only.
• Civil ceremonies outside are not permitted only blessings are allowed.
• For blessings outdoors client must provide outdoor furniture.
• No helicopter landings are permitted.
• Horse and carriage is subject to approval which needs to be confirmed by the Hatfield Park Estate.
• Please note that Hatfield Park hosts a number of festivals/events which may fall on the same day as your event however you will be given prior notice of such events.
• Every wedding must have security which depend on the number of guests, this can be arranged by Hatfield House Hospitality at an additional charge, charges from £750.00 ex vat.

Surround yourself in over 400 years of history. Set in stunning, tranquil grounds, famous Jacobean country House and Gardens Hatfield House offers a memorable, elegant venue, perfectly designed for intimate or large weddings in the heart of Hertfordshire

Our biggest indoor venue, the magnificent Tudor Old Palace, was built in 1485 and the childhood home of Elizabeth I where she held her first Council of State. It is one of the foremost examples of mediaeval brickwork in the country, and still retains its original wood beams and impressive high ceilings. The Tapestry, elegantly hanging in the Old Palace, is a replica of the original 'Devonshire Hunting Series', which you can now find in the Victoria and Albert Museum.

The stunning and open Knot Garden, attached to the Old Palace, is based on Elizabethan patterns, and provides exquisite photo opportunities for both weddings and corporate events. The Raised Lawn is perfect for outdoor blessings, drinks receptions, and lawn games with breath-taking views of Hatfield House, home to Lord and Lady Salisbury who reside there today. For warmer weather, the Knot Garden is ideal for summer celebrations such as BBQ’s, hog roasts, and food stations – the perfect corporate party.

The Old Palace can accommodate large events from 80 – 250 guests on long or round banqueting tables, and space for a DJ and dancefloor. Our spacious bar is attached to the room, meaning guests do not have to wonder far for drinks, and is the perfect area to add additional entertainment such as photobooths.
