About this space

The late-Gothic Divinity School is the largest and oldest room in the Old Bodleian. With its elaborate stone-carved ceiling in the Perpendicular style, warm stone floor and arched windows that let in a wealth of sunlight, it’s bursting with romance and elegance.

A special treat for all Potterheads: the Divinity School was featured in the first two Harry Potter films!

This stunning interior seats up to 120 guests for a fabulous reception and offers enough room to dance the night away. The Wren door that faces the Sheldonian Theatre creates a beautiful frame for photos of newlyweds and their loved ones.

Say your vows in one of the oldest libraries in Europe! The Bodleian Library and its secluded outdoor spaces offer a spectacular historic backdrop for romantic weddings. Three glorious rooms from Oxford’s Bodleian are licensed for civil ceremonies: Divinity School, Convocation House and Chancellor’s Court.

With all the corners, arches and doorways, the place is full of charming photo spots. Whether you’re dreaming of an intimate wedding or a lavish affair, the experienced events team will go above and beyond to help you bring your ideas to life in this breathtaking, historic setting.

The Bodleian Library is located in the heart of Oxford, home to the prestigious University of Oxford, the oldest university in the English speaking world. Steeped in history, it is set in the neighbourhood of other notable places: the glorious Radcliffe Camera, the impressive Sheldonian Theatre, and Exeter College’s stunning walled garden.

The whole area is often used as a filming location. There’s an abundance of museums, galleries and other attractions. Oxford is easily reachable by major motorways. Oxford railway station is half a mile from the city centre and Oxford Airport is less than half an hour away. There are frequent coach services to London.
