Your Guide to Renting Private Bars in Los Angeles, CA

In a lively city like Los Angeles, you can find bars on almost every corner, each with its own distinctive vibe. From swanky hotel bars Downtown to hip dives in places like Silver Lake, and much more in between, the City of Angels has something to suit all styles, tastes and budgets. No matter if you’re just grabbing drinks with friends or celebrating a special occasion, we’re sure you’ll find a suitable place among our listings.

What kinds of bars can I find in Los Angeles?

The simple answer would be: all of them! But to be a little more specific, here are the types of bars you’ll encounter most often in Los Angeles:

  • Rooftop bars - Want to party against the backdrop of Hollywood Hills, palm trees and blinking city lights? Rent a rooftop bar and enjoy your drinks while looking at Los Angeles from a new perspective.
  • Cocktail bars - From high-end cocktail bars to laid-back lounges, the City of Angels abounds in places that serve both classics and inventive cocktails with their own signature twist.
  • Sports bars - Nothing beats the fever pitch of watching a game at a sports bar with a crowd of other enthusiasts! Los Angeles has quite a selection of places with flat screen TVs, hospitable atmosphere, comfort food and great drinks.
  • Wine bars - In the mood for a glass of red, white or rosé? You’ll find plenty of atmospheric bars with top quality wines served by knowledgeable staff. No matter if you’re an amateour wine lover or a connoisseur, there’s something for everyone.
  • Karaoke bars - Sing your heart out to your favorite songs and have a good laugh! Karaoke bars are extremely popular and provide a high-energy atmosphere for birthdays, bachelorette parties and other occasions! You’ll find great karaoke bars in known nightlife hotspots such as Koreatown or in random locations all over LA.
  • Speakeasy bars - Originally dating back to the Prohibition era, speakeasy bars were hidden in plain sight and sold alcohol illegally. Today’s speakeasies are, of course, very much legal, but typically maintain the secretive atmosphere.
  • Gay bars - Diverse Los Angeles has a great number of LGBTQ+ friendly places, the majority of which can be found in West Hollywood. The area has hosted the LA Pride Parade since 1970 and is known as the heart of the city’s gay community. But WeHo’s Sunset Strip and Santa Monica Boulevard aren’t the only places with gay bars, there are some in DTLA, Silver Lake and other neighborhoods too!

How do I choose a bar for my event in Los Angeles?

Here are some of our tips & best practices for renting the perfect bar in Los Angeles:

Your drink of choice - This is a no-brainer: if you’re renting a bar for your event, you’re most likely going to consume some liquor. Why not focus on the type of drinks you want to serve to your guests? Will you be drinking cocktails or mocktails? Craft beer or wine made from the finest grapes? Spirits or soft drinks? No matter what your preference is, Los Angeles has bars that specialize in any type of drinks you can imagine.

Ambiance - Pick a bar with the right ambiance. Things such as decor, music and lighting all add up to create the perfect mood. Would you like to rent a bar with classic and elegant interiors, something sleek and modern or perhaps a quirky space with eclectic design? Do you want access to natural light or are mood lighting and neon lights more your style? Would you rather listen to jazz, hip hop or maybe you’d prefer a live music bar? Are you looking for a bar where you can dance? Think about what best suits you and the type of event you’re hosting, then trust Tagvenue to find a space that ticks all the boxes.

Neighborhood - Explore energetic Downtown and its hottest bars or check out artsy Los Feliz and the hip places it has to offer. Or maybe you’d prefer a beach bar in Venice? The cities and neighborhoods that make up the sprawling Los Angeles area all bring something a little bit different to the table. You can simply choose a location that’s closest to you or try to find an area whose vibes match the atmosphere you’re aiming for with your event.

Capacity - Are you looking for a small bar or do you need more space? From intimate private booths to exclusive use of the entire bar, the bars in Los Angeles cater to events of all sizes. So put together your guest list and use Tagvenue’s filters to find a bar that’s just the right size!

Budget - Last but definitely not least, set a budget. LA’s extravagant bars can lean toward the pricier side, but you can still find options that are more than affordable. If you don’t want to compromise on location and event size, we have some tips and tricks to help you save some money if you’re on a tight budget. Talk to your venue manager about pricing options: some bars will offer attractive drinks packages with prices per person. You could arrange a cash bar for your guests, i.e. have them pay for all the drinks they get from the bar. Or you could go for a timed open bar, where drinks are on you for the first hour or two of your event.

Booked Selma Lounge at Saint Felix Hollywood

I love Saint Felix. The Venue itself is absolutely beautiful. the intricacies of the decor have a classy, tasteful modern vibe that you can relax in. They have multiple areas that you can use based on your event needs, with different sized private rooms and an outdoor patio with side access. All of the staff were absolutely stellar, John in particular was amazing, he was really flexible as we figured out how many guests we would have and had so many options available for drink vs food. They had options for bar credit or even using drink tickets. We had an album release party so we used the projector for visuals and had our own spotify playlist and music over the equipment which had amazing sound quality. Christian handled our AV needs like a pro and was so easy to work with. The manager and bartender on the night accomodated us for everything we needed. The drinks were spectacularly presented. The whole venue was spotless and well maintained. Truthfully I will not hesitate to bring all of my events here again.

Booked Entire Venue at THE SPEAKEASY - Many Sets, Filming & Events
4.5
The place is incredible, a mix of a barber shop, a speakease, a beautiful photobooth, and an incredible retro space for photos, shows, clips, events, etc... The size is small, but ideal for small projects or small celebrations, it is my second time there and I highly recommend it... possibly I will rent it again soon.

Booked Side Room at Jalapeno Pete's
5.0
I really like the side room it’s big enough for about 40-50 people, the use of the Photo Booth was included in the rental and you get a private bar tender. The food was amazing, we recommend doing the tacos for a big party. The rental price is very reasonable. They allow you to bring a dj and/or play your own music.

The space was unique, welcoming, cozy, and ultimately exactly wanted out of a 30th birthday celebration. Nick, Kat, and Jimmy are wonderful people and were super friendly and accommodating. All of my guest felt like they were transported to a whole different side of LA, as well as a whole different era! All in all, I was happy that everything was set up and taken care of, leaving me with nothing to worry about except my karaoke performance.
