Whether you are starting out, or have been a pro for years - we’re here to help you out. We also chipped in with a little organization guide in case you want some tips with that.

So, you want to know how to organize a photo shoot?

Planning a photo shoot can be stressful, but with this easy guide, you will have the perfect set-up for photos in no time.

Whether you are just starting out, or have been taking photos for years, making a solid plan beforehand is a must. So instead of drowning your sorrows in Google Search, let’s make this planning stage something to look forward to.

How to organize the perfect photo shoot in 5 easy steps

Step 1 - Define the concept

Think about what theme you are going for, create a mood board, and search online for inspiration. Use sites like Pinterest or Instagram for things that will match your vision, and inspire you at the same time. Create a rough outline, with enough details to know what you’re doing, but give yourself some room for spontaneity. What colors are you looking for, and what mood do you want to convey in your photos? Search our site for inspiration. Perhaps a certain photo shoot location will point you in the right direction?

Step 2 - Choose the location

Here at Tagvenue we offer only the top locations in Los Angeles, whether you are looking for a simple photogenic room, a vintage vibe or anything else that pleases your imagination. Think about what type of background you need, and on that basis look for the perfect photo shoot location. What is the theme of your photos? Will you also require anything from the area which surrounds the location of the photo shoot? Are you shooting in a room with a cyclorama, or are you looking for a one-of-a-kind space? Also, make sure to think about the venue’s existing lighting and find out  if you can bring in your own lamps.

Step 3 - Pick your models

A beautiful lady, or a beautiful man will also set the tone of your photos. Just remember, if you’re shooting a women’s jewelry collection in Los Angeles, that cute guy who came to the casting is probably not your best choice. Remember that it’s not only the look, but also the character that matters! You don’t want to end up working with someone that you can’t work with, so choose wisely!

Step 4 - Get everything ready

The last thing you want on set is to suddenly realize that you’re missing a prop, a light, or even – snacks. Write down the things which are absolutely necessary, and keep the list on you at all times. Consider the following questions:

  • Do you need emergency contacts for the job in case someone bails?
  • Do you have sufficient  camera equipment, spare batteries, photographic reflectors, etc.?
  • Have you prepared all the props, the wardrobe and the make-up?

Step 5 - Use your imagination!

And now for the fun part! Experimenting is great, so let your imagination run wild. Try different poses, camera angles, lights, or costumes and props. Get inspired through images, and put your own unique spin on them. Remember that you are the artist, and there are no limitations to your photo shoot. And last, but not least, don’t forget about post-production. This can give you even more creative freedom. Adobe Lightroom is the perfect editing software for turning your photos from basic to fabulous.
