About this space

4th Street Recording is a boutique studio offering a full range of professional audio recording services, delivered with the same quality and special old-school attention you would find at studios that cost twice as much. Our client list is long and diverse, from The Beach Boys to No Doubt to The Neighbourhood to Weezer to SZA.

We use Protools Ultimate HD, but if you didn't see the computer screen, you might think it was 1976, with our API 3224 console and all the other vintage analog equipment. With velvet walls and natural wood, the studio looks warm and inviting on film, and many artists shoot performance videos here, especially with our famous "deep voiced" Yamaha C7 grand piano.

We are four blocks from Santa Monica Beach, and there are many hotels within close walking distance, as well as shops and dining on the Third Street Promenade.

If you didn't see the computer screens, you might think you had stepped back into a recording session in 1976. That's the year this studio was built, using natural wood, a wavy ceiling, and walls and floor soundproofed with sand. Burgundy velvet walls in the control room, antique furniture, and vintage lighting fixtures help create a vibe that comforts and inspires.

All the recording equipment is well-maintained, including the 2-inch Studer A827 tape machine. There is an outdoor courtyard for gear prep and craft services.

The downtown Santa Monica location is just four blocks from the beach and one block off the Third Street Promenade, and is conveniently located near many production companies, not to mention artists who live on the Westside of Los Angeles and don't want to commute to the Valley, Hollywood, or Downtown LA.

Our Clients: Weezer, Daniel Caesar, LP, The Rare Occasions, Hello Yello, The Neighbourhood, Ke$ha, No Doubt, Nelly Furtado, Betty Who, Solange Knowles, Weird Al Yankovic, Bad Suns, M.I.A., Zed’s Dead, Muse, Sean Paul, The Beach Boys, K.Flay, Incubus, Andrew McMahon (Jack’s Mannequin), Mick Fleetwood, Alice Cooper, Julianne Hough, Kate Hudson.
