About Joy King Lau
Heritage of Joy King Lau (1977–Present)
Even before opening Joy King Lau in 1977, Norman Han was deeply rooted in the Chinatown community. As one of the founding members of the Chinatown Chinese Association, he helped shape the neighbourhood into what it is today. Since then, Joy King Lau has become a staple of Chinatown—welcoming locals, tourists, and families through the decades. It now stands as the area's longest-running restaurant.
The popular Dim Sum menu continues to draw crowds, while the expanded main menu offers a variety of dishes that keep regulars coming back. Over the past 45 years, the restaurant has earned a loyal following, serving three generations of diners. “We’ve seen our customers’ children and grandchildren dine with us,” says Norman Han. “It’s a reminder of how far we’ve come.”
After six dedicated years, manager King has retired due to ill health, and the team wishes her well. The new manager, Vince Gu, has kept the core team together to maintain the same warm service and consistent quality. Blending beloved classics with a few fresh ideas, Joy King Lau is proud to continue serving the community as it approaches its fifth decade.
