Are there any hidden costs I should know when renting cheap filming locations in London?

When looking for affordable filming locations in London, it's important to be aware of possible additional expenses that may arise. Although the initial rental fee may seem budget-friendly, hidden costs could impact your overall budget. Some common hidden costs include:

  • Insurance Requirements: Some filming locations may require that you obtain insurance coverage for liability or damages during the filming process. Ensure you understand the insurance requirements and factor in the cost of obtaining appropriate coverage.
  • Permits and Permissions: Filming in certain areas, especially public spaces or historical landmarks, may require permits or permissions. These permits often come with associated fees, so it's crucial to inquire about permit requirements and associated costs.
  • Overtime Charges: Going beyond the agreed-upon filming schedule could result in overtime charges. Clarify the rental terms regarding overtime rates to avoid unexpected fees and ensure your production schedule remains within the allotted time.
  • Additional Equipment or Services: While the rental fee may cover basic amenities, additional equipment, props, or services such as lighting and sound equipment may incur extra costs. Understand what is included in the rental fee and inquire about additional expenses for necessary extras.
  • Cleaning and Restoration Fees: Depending on the rental agreement, you may be responsible for cleaning the premises after filming or restoring the location to its original condition. Failure to do so could result in additional fees, so be aware of the terms regarding cleanliness and maintenance.

Michael was very easy to deal with and extremely flexible and helpful . We have little experience in studio filming but he took the time to help us, share his knowledge and help us set up. He has a variety of equipment and the studio we used was well stocked, quiet and spacious. He made it very easy for us to film and complete our project.

Great space, exactly as described. The studio was unmanned but the team gave me all the relevant information and were extremely helpful (and provided the extra furniture we requested for our shoot). Plenty of sockets and extension leads, lots of natural space but also blackout blinds. Toilets and amenities were part of the space. All very useful and functional. Would definitely use again!
