Your Guide to Hiring Tea Party Venues in London

The capital is home to some of the UK’s most popular tea party venues – in fact, tea parties and London practically go hand-in-hand. An elegant hotel is your best bet for a traditional tea party, or for a quirkier take on this quintessential British custom, a casual cafe or quaint tearoom would make a stylish setting. For the ultimate afternoon tea experience, choosing a venue that specialises exclusively in tea parties is sure to wow your guests. Tea parties and London are the perfect pairings, so why not plan your next tea party with Tagvenue, the search engine that takes the stress out of venue hire?

Want to pull off your very own tea party with panache? The tea or teas you serve are just as important as the food, so offer a range of tea (English Breakfast, Earl Grey, fruit tea) as well as milk, sugar and lemon. When the weather is warm, remember that iced tea makes for a more refreshing tipple, especially if you add a touch of Pimm’s. And don’t feel restricted to scones and finger sandwiches – mini tarts, petit fours and shortbreads all work well.

Hosting a tea party in London but aren’t quite sure where to start? We’ve eaten a lot of cake to find the capital’s best spots (not that we’re complaining!). Whether you’re throwing a Mother’s Day garden party, champagne afternoon tea or royal-themed baby shower, we can recommend a venue to suit. So what are you waiting for? Your pretty-as-a-picture tea party venue is only a couple of clicks away!

Popular tea party ideas:

  • Morning tea party. Elevate your pre-lunch gathering with personalised decor and gourmet versions of brunch classics, like bacon and egg breakfast bruschetta.

  • Jane Austen's bridal shower tea party. Host a Regency-style picnic complete with vintage china, a Pride and Prejudice quiz and bookmarks with classic Jane Austen quotes for favours.

  • Vintage tea party. Think mismatched china and an old-school menu that grandma would love.

  • Mad Hatter’s tea partyAlice in Wonderland-themed styling will give your event a touch of magic.

  • High tea. Hire an elegant Victorian tea room that will strike just the right note with your VIP guests.

  • Ladies' day. Choose a great theme, like shabby chic afternoon tea, Paris tea party or Downton Abbey tea party, and plan a crafternoon or pamper session.

When hiring a tea party venue, keep in mind:

  • Your budget. Know where you can splash out and where you can cut costs.
  • The venue’s location. North, south, east or west Londo and accessibility like parking, connections to public transport and disabled access.

  • The type of event you’re hosting. Do you need a traditional English tea room for Victorian afternoon tea, a retro cafe for a 1950s tea party or a kid-friendly terrace for a family birthday?

  • The venue’s catering options and licences. Check whether the venue has an alcohol licence, can cater to special dietary requirements or allows self-catering.

  • Whether a smart dress code applies. Remember to check with the venue in advance.

What are the most popular locations for hiring a tea party venue in London?

Whether you want to host your event in the heart of the city or in one of its most charming suburbs, there are plenty of places where you can go.

  • Mayfair. It’s no surprise that Mayfair is one of the hottest spots for tea party venues in London. The area has long been known as a centre for high society and luxury goods, so it makes sense that its tea party venues also cater to this clientele. If you want to throw an elegant event in a refined setting, Mayfair is your best bet.
  • Soho. While Mayfair is the place to be if you want to host an event that feels like it belongs in a Jane Austen novel, Soho is the spot for events that are more modern. The neighbourhood has long been associated with artistic and countercultural movements, so its tea party venues lean towards the unconventional side.
  • Knightsbridge. If you want to host a tea party that feels like an old-fashioned royal affair, Knightsbridge is the best option. The area has always been associated with the British aristocracy, so it’s no surprise that there are plenty of tea party venues here that feel like they’re straight out of Downton Abbey. Knightsbridge is also home to some of the most luxurious tea shops in London, so you can make your event feel extra fancy by serving high-end teas and cakes.
  • Bloomsbury. If you want your tea party to feel more intellectual, Bloomsbury is the best option. This area of London has always been associated with academia and literature, so it’s no surprise that there are plenty of tea shops here that offer a more refined experience than in other parts of the city. You can also host your event at one of the many museums in this district, which means you can combine an afternoon tea party with a cultural outing for your guests.

What kind of venues can I hire for a tea party in London?

Tea party venues in London are plentiful, and there are a few different kinds of space that you should consider for your event. The first option is to hire an afternoon tea venue or restaurant. These venues provide you with the amenities you need for your party, including tables and chairs, linens, plates, silverware, and any other decorations you want to use. You can choose from a range of different styles at these locations: they might be traditional English-style tea houses with lace tablecloths and floral arrangements on every surface; they also might be more modern restaurants that serve food alongside their tea, or they could be somewhere in between these two extremes. Another option is to rent out a quirky afternoon tea venue if you want something a little different. You can choose from a range of different options, including vintage-style tea rooms and tents. If you have a specific theme or idea in mind for your party, then these venues can help you out by providing decorations and even food that matches the aesthetic. Finally, if you're looking for something fancier, luxury afternoon tea venues are the most expensive option, but they also provide an experience that you can’t get anywhere else. These types of venues offer a more upscale service, complete with beautiful decor and incredible food. If you’re looking for a venue that is going to make your guests feel special, then this is the way to go.

We booked on short notice but the team worked hard to accommodate us despite this and were extremely helpful and welcoming. The room itself matches the photos and has a nice, calming ambience. Massive thanks to Anne and Lizzie! 5/5 would recommend! :)

I was very impressed with the communication and ease when booking considering I had given late notice. The fruit and veg room was perfect, it met all my needs: great central location, good space, natural sunlight, great decor and a private entrance. On the day itself, Carla and Andreia made sure everything went smoothly. Communication was seamless, the food was fresh and tasty and the ambience was fantastic. Very professional team.

Booked Unique Baby Shower at Albert's at Beaufort House
4.4
The Club Room was perfect for our gathering of 50 people. The afternoon tea sets were great and the service spot on. There was a minor catastrophe when the main chandelier dropped from the ceiling about 45 mins before the function started but they dealt with it immediately and made sure it was all safe to continue on time. Brunch at the Brasserie beforehand was excellent too.
